Greetings from southwest Ohio!

Since 1974 - primarily focusing on 160m DX.  Lifetime - 339 worked/337 confirmed/318 current/21 deleted on 160m.

Worked Z60A (Kosovo) on January 31, 2018 for an ATNO (#339) on 160m!  Thanks guys!

Received QSL for S2 - ATNO on 160m.  Tnx Stig!

Received QSL for UK9AA (Fedor) - ATNO on 160m.  Thanks Fedor!

I have been looking for the final 22 on 160m for 5 years now.

My final 22 on 160m are: 4S, 4W, A5, AP, BS7H, BV9P, FR/G, FR/T, FT5W, P5, UN, VK0M, VK9C, VK9X, XU, XW, XX9, XZ, YA, YI, YK and ZS8M.

I am active on all bands from 160m to VHF (80m-6m!) and have all countries worked on 10, 15, and 20m.  I am only missing P5 on 12, 17, 30, 40, and 80m to have them all on all bands 10-80m.

I received DXCC #1 HR (Mixed, CW, and SSB) in 1992 at the New Orleans DX Convention fom Bill Moore, NC1L, himself!

I have been on numerous DX-peditions since 1978.

Antenna compliment:

10/15/20 - Optibeam OB16-3 @ 75 feet

12/17 - Hy-Gain DB1217 @ 75 feet

30m - 2 Full-Size Element Homebrew @ 90 feet

40m - 2 Full-Size Element Homebrew interlaced with the 30m @ 90 feet

60m - Full-Size Homebrew 4-square using a modified ComTek ACB-4 phasing box

80m - Full-Size 4-square using the standard ComTek ACB-4 80m phasing box

160m - Full-Size 5-element vertical array using a full-size quater-wave verical radiator with an elevated feedpoint and 3 elevated radials surrounded by 4 ground-mounted full-size parasitic elements each spaced 0.20 wavelength from the driven element providing the NE/NW/SW/SE directions.  Each parasitic element is selectable as either a reflector or a director.  The un-used elements are shorted to ground.  The net effect is that there are 3 vertical elements (reflector/driven/director) in any of the NE/NW/SW/SE directions from southwest Ohio.  The calculated gain is 6.5 dBi and the array has a 2:1 SWR bandwidth of about 2Mhz (1.75 MHz to 1.95 MHz).  FOr evaluation of its performance, ask people on the 160m band.

Numerous (8+) beverages and a temporary flag antenna for testing various configuarions.  I am contemplating a replacement for the Hi-Z 160m vertical RX (200 foot diameter) array that is not so lightning sensitive.  The Hi-Z array performed very well, but it is very much subject to blown electronics from passing storms.

Radio compliment:

Yaesu FT-1000D purchased new in 1991 and stull humming along!  200w

Elecraft K3s/P3 purchased new in 2017.  100w

I hope to hear you on the air!

Note -

As most already know, one of my best friends, N9NS passed away in 2016.  Mike was a neat guy and was always there to help.

We met on the air when I was a novice in 1969.  But we met face-to-face for the first time at LAX prior to our DX-pedition to Clipperton Island in 1992 (FO0CI).  We had been on 26 DX-peditions together including KH5, KH5K, V5, KH8, J8, J6, E3, J3, 3A, VP2M, and a host of others.  He was my best man at my wedding and was there when my daughters were born.  Those that knew Mike, understood that he was 'one-of-a-kind'.  IF you ever need a N9NS story, please let me know.

All DX-peditioners have their go-to folks that are ready to travel and are a great personality to have along.  MIke was one of those guys.

Thanks to W9ZRX, I now have copies of Mike's DX-pedition logs and some QSL cards.  I will do my level-best to confirm QSOs if they are in his log.  I will only confirm a QSO if you are in the log.  I have had numerous people ask for 'blank' cards.

I can confirm the following DX-peditions:

HS0A - October 1978

FO0CI - March 1992

N9NS/MM - March 1993/March 2000

N9NS/KH5K - March 1993

N0AFW/KH5 - March 1993

V59T - October/November 1994

ZF2NS - October 1996

J3/N9NS - March 1998

E30GA - November 1998

OK8NSA - Various

FO0AAA - February/March 2000

VP2MNS - 2003/December 2004

3A/N9NS - December 2005

3A/N0FW - December 2005

PJ2/N9NS - December 2009

PJ2/N0FW - December 2009

Please send SASE or SAE + Postage - sorry no LOTW available.  All logs are hand-written.
