Hello and welcome! Thanks to the encouragement of my parents, I got my license in May of 1997. Over the following year or so, I continued to study and practice my CW until I achieved the Extra Class License. I have enjoyed many aspects of Amateur Radio to include, SSB, CW, PSK31, Traffic Nets, and local 2M rag chewing.

My QTH is near Lexington Park, which is located in St Mary's County, Maryland. I am about one and a half hours south east of Washington DC, our nation's capital.

Normal home station is:  Stations is a Flex-6300, FTdx-3000, FT-990, Heathkit HW-101, Swan 500CX, Palstar AT-500 Tuner, 80M, 40M, 20M, and 15M Double Bazookas, 17M/10 Dipole, 30M/20M Dipole.  I also have a ZS6BKW that works with no tuner  on 10, 12, 17, 20 & 40m bands! Works 6, 15, 30 & 80m with an antenna tuner!

You can find some great info on the ZS6BKW antenna at w5ddl.orgs website  http://www.w5ddl.org/files/Zs6bkw_vs_G5rv_20100221_files/frame.htm

I got mine from W8AMZ's at http://www.w8amz.com/W8AMZ_G5RV_Page.html, go to the bottom of the page for this Optimized ZS6BKW antenna.

Recently I have gotten into working satellite passes.  This has been a blast!  Below is my setup with Arrow antenna, Icom ID-51A Plus, FT1XD, make shift tripod setup. I am working on AO-85 and SO-50.

Here are my latest projects.  This is a replica of a Ameco AC-1 and a homebrew single tube regen.  I have decided to build a old 50s-60s Novice style station.  The AC-1 is my 5-7 watt novice style transmitter, and the Regen is a single 3A4 that I built to pair up with it.  This was a very inexpensive transmitter back in 1958 at $14.95.  Even into the 70s when the stopped making the AC-1 it was only up to $25. The receiver works great and you can find the schematic at http://w5dxs.tripod.com/receiver.htm .   It is working very well, but a little wide on the receive side for CW.  I guess I need to figure out some filtering for it next.

My other radio projects, a BITX40 QRP SSB tranceiver, and two Broadcast Band/Shortwave Regen receivers.

Radio Kit from www.arcsandsparks.com and power supply kit from Antique Radio Supplies.  GREAT sounding receiver!

Single Tube Regen Receiver found at FrostFest in Richmond. Needed a little work, but is running well now, and a lot of fun on AM Band.

Just a little on the history of Southern Maryland:

Established in 1637, St. Mary's County was the home to the first Maryland Colony, the first capitol of the Colony of Maryland and is considered to be the birthplace of religious freedom in North America.

St Mary's County is also home to the Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Francis Scott Key the writer of the Star Spangled Banner, grew up in St. Marys county, Maryland's First Sheriff's Office (Est. 1637), and many historical sites from 1600s to the present.

Besides Amateur Radio, I am also very much into photography. I own several Nikon cameras and enjoy landscape, wildlife, and action sports photography. You can see my photos at www.jbr13.com I hope you enjoy.

Here are some of my photos to show you a little bit of Southern Maryland.

I hope to hear you again on the bands, take care and 73s from N3YUG!
