Greetings from N4FY!

I'm located in the Ocala Florida area, about 12 miles south of Silver Springs. For more information on Silver Springs, and other Florida state parks check out: https://www.floridastateparks.org/park/Silver-Springs

Ham radio has been my main hobby since the mid 1960s. I passed both my novice and technician test at the same time, in the summer of 1966. At that time I was living in New Jersey so I was issued two licenses WN2VLN and WB2VLN simultaneously. I held WB2VLN until I relocated to Florida in 1975. After moving to Florida I was given WA4CGB. When the new "N" calls were released in 1976 I applied for one and received my present N4FY callsign.

Early on I spent most of my time on the air rag chewing on CW and SSB. I spent a lot of time on 2 meter FM during the 1970s and 80s. During the mid 1970s I developed an interest in RTTY, starting with a model 15 teleprinter and a homebrewed analog TU based on the ST-5 design. Later I upgraded to a model 26 teleprinter. At one point I had a military surplus Kleinschmidt TT-98 teleprinter. For the past 5 years I've spent most of my time on the air chasing DX, and dabbling in contests and the new digital modes, especially FT8.

I’m currently using a Kenwood TS-590SG transceiver driving an Ameritron AL-82 amplifier. My antennas are a Mosley TA-63N mounted about 35’ high for 20 through 6 meters. I have a 43’ vertical that I use primarily on 40 and 30 meters. I’m experimenting with a 160 meter inverted V with the apex suspended from a tree about 50’ high. For low noise receive on 160 I use the DX Engineering RF-PRO-1B active magnetic loop. I also have an 80 meter inverted V suspended off the side of the tower at about 33’. And there’s an Arrow 2 meter and 70 cm j-pole mounted directly above the TA-63N.

My preferred QSL method is via LoTW. I’ve been uploading my logs to LoTW, eQSL, QRZ.com , Club Log, and HRDLOG, since 2010.

Thanks for stopping by and reading my bio! Hopefully we will meet on the air someday.
