NS3L QRZ.com activity

I currently have no items for sale or wanted on QRZ.com or eHam.net as of March 2, 2017.

I only use my standard listed email address as shown above when listing stuff FS.

If you find something being listed with my call sign embedded in the contact information, it's more than likely a scammer.

Contact me ASAP if you see this occuring.

NS3L Abides by the DX Code Of Conduct

I will listen, and listen, and then listen again before calling.
I will only call if I can copy the DX station properly.
I will not trust the DX cluster and will be sure of the DX station's call sign before calling.
I will not interfere with the DX station nor anyone calling and will never tune up on the DX frequency or in the QSX slot.
I will wait for the DX station to end a contact before I call.
I will always send my full call sign.
I will call and then listen for a reasonable interval. I will not call continuously.
I will not transmit when the DX operator calls another call sign, not mine.
I will not transmit when the DX operator queries a call sign not like mine.
I will not transmit when the DX station requests geographic areas other than mine.
When the DX operator calls me, I will not repeat my call sign unless I think he has copied it incorrectly.
I will be thankful if and when I do make a contact.
I will respect my fellow hams and conduct myself so as to earn their respect.

Here's a little history about "NS3L"

Currently retired as of June 2009 as a Project Manager with 25 years service in NJ TRANSIT's (NJT) Capital Project Management Department at NJT's Headquarters in Newark, NJ.

I'm a Professional Freelance Photojournalist, a Licensed Private Pilot, Extra Class Ham Operator, Avid Railfan, & R/C Helicopter - R/C Aircraft Pilot.

I'm also an Site Manager for www.HeritageUnits.com, a website dedicated to tracking nearly 700 uniquely painted Heritage & Special Interest locomotives here in the United States

My other hobbies include, Photography, Astronomy, Videography, PC & Mac Computers, & Auto Detailing, and many other interests, too many of which to list here.

Call Sign History:

WB2MOO: Around April of 1977 I passed my Technician Class while attending a FCC Testing session at the Federal Building in Philadelphia, Pa., During that time I lived in Bricktown, NJ.

WB3IVD: Still a Technician Class, I changed my call sign in July of 1977 because I had moved to Vera Cruz, Pa. and in 1978 over to Alburtis, PA. In 1982, work commitments required me to move back to Bricktown, NJ where I retained my WB3IVD call sign.

N2FKA: In the Spring of 1985, still living in Bricktown, NJ., I upgraded to General Class following one of the first VE sessions given and changed my call to N2FKA. In the fall of 1987 I got my Advanced Class in another VE Session. In early 1988 I moved back to Pennsylvania and kept my N2FKA Call sign until the spring of 1989.

NS3L: In April 1989 and living in Bethlehem, PA., I passed the Extra Class test in a VE Session and requested a new 2x1 call ...NS3L. (On a side note, my friend and fellow ham Dave Larsen, WS2L and myself both requested 2x1 calls around the same time and we both got our new calls within days of each other. Incredibly, both new calls contained the letters S & L)..

On another side note.. getting the letters S & L just happened to coinside with the famous S&L (Savings & Loan) crisis of 1986-1990. How interesting is that..!!

That's my very good friend and fellow ham, Dave WS2L (Left), and myself Steve NS3L (Right) during one of our visit's to W1AW HQ in 1989

Special thanks go out to Pete "The Greek" NL7XM @ Callsign Historical Research for the time he took to provide me with this information.

The Keyers (So Far)

I currently have five keyers in my shack..

The newest are a pair of keyers made by Begali from Italy.

Begali "Sculpture" Iambic Paddle S/N #1001, and a Begali "Sculpture Arrow" Straight Key S/N #054 both of which I use with my Icom IC-7600

I also have a N3ZN ZN-9 Iambic Paddle which I use with my Icom IC-7000 at position #2

Another paddle I have is a "Bencher BY2" Iambic Chrome Plated model

Finally, I own a vintage "Vibroplex Champion" S/N #196337 which I use from time to time..

This particuar model was made in 1956 and is in very fine condition.

I recently sent it to Vibroplex for a full reconditioning and tune up and purchased a very nice plexi cover from them.
